Documents Page

We're looking for ideas on how best to use the Lancashire area of the Tandem Club website.  One suggestion is for members to create Word/pdf documents of rides they have been on and would recommend to other members of the Tandem Club.
We will create a Word template that can be used as an outline and create an example document - the rest as they say, is up to you!

LA Group February Ride - Weather Update. Heavy showers and gales are forecast for Cumbria on Sunday with gusts in excess of 60 mph. Please check the What's On for updates or contact the leader before considering travelling. There is a high probability that we may have to rearrange this ride.

LA February Tandem ride has been postponed from Sunday 9th until Sunday 16th February. Apologies for having to rearrange the ride but in view of the weather warnings that have been issued for Cumbria I feel that this is the sensible course of action.

March tandem ride from Carnforth Station

Meet at the station 9.15am for 9.30am. There is free parking in local residential roads. It is easier to park say half a mile from the town centre and ride into the town.

From the station, we turn left to take the marsh road to Cragbank, to meet the A6, where we turn right. We pass through Bolton le Sands village to take a narrow lane south for 1.5 miles, where we turn left and head through Halton village, to join the cycleway to the Crook of Lune, Woodies Cafe for elevenses.

We continue on the cycle way to Caton, where we head south towards Lancaster and stay on lanes to Galgate village. Here, we recommend dismounting and walking across the A6 to join the lane to Conder Green. On the A588, we turn right for ¾ of a mile to Ashton Hall garden centre for lunch. Approx. 20 miles.

After lunch, we retrace our steps to Conder Green to pick up the Lancashire Cycleway. This takes us into Lancaster via St Georges Quay. We cross the river via Millennium Bridge and then take Lune Street, and also cross Owen Road to join Halton Road. After a mile we turn right to head towards Nether Kellet. Here we cross the M6 and climb through the village, taking the left hand turn to Carnforth.

The return ride is shorter, around 13 miles. There is no afternoon tea stop but we could return to the station cafe, or Booth’s cafe if people wish? We may need to alter the ride on the day, particularly the part on the Lancashire Cycleway. When riding the route recently, the cycle way was completely flooded!

LA & FY Christmas Lunch
08/12/2019
LA & FY Group Christmas Lunch December 2019 We had a great attendance at our Festive Lunch this year, held again at the Crooklands Hotel. A few members braved the blustery wet and windy Cumbrian weather for a short ride before settling down to a well deserved Christmas lunch. A superb venue, attentive staff and lovely food. It’s a tribute to the hard work of the outgoing Regional Officer, Paul Rodman, that we had 24 members in attendance. Our Group is very active with rides every month, and often members meet up to squeeze in rides of their own in-between! It was also lovely to welcome club members who hadn’t been able to ride with us this year to catch up on their news. Members who no longer ride with us often meet up at the coffee stops on our rides and attend the annual ‘runs meeting’ contributing ideas of their own. The Crooklands Hotel is an excellent venue and well worth a visit if you are in the area. If you live in the LA and FY postal code area, or even further afield, and would like a monthly ride with a friendly group of tandemers then please get in touch. Stephen Webb

This year's ride out of Appleby-in-Westmoreland saw 7 Tandems and one solo cyclist meet up at Appleby rail station. Unfortunately our leaders, John and Alison couldn't make the trip so the honour fell to John and Ann. I won't mention how many times the map came out but a successful day ensued including morning coffee at Culgaith, taking in the stone circle 'Long Meg' (including a free lecture by John), lunch at Melmerby green and village bakery where Geoff and Elma turned up for a social. We thoroughly enjoyed the Cumbrian countryside and luckily the rain held off for the majority of the 37 miles. Even when it did occur it was only fairly light so by the time we finished at Croft Ends Farm, we were quite dry. Thanks to Dave, Lynn, John and Ann for once again providing tea and biscuits which was most welcome.
