March tandem ride from Carnforth Station

Meet at the station 9.15am for 9.30am. There is free parking in local residential roads. It is easier to park say half a mile from the town centre and ride into the town.

From the station, we turn left to take the marsh road to Cragbank, to meet the A6, where we turn right. We pass through Bolton le Sands village to take a narrow lane south for 1.5 miles, where we turn left and head through Halton village, to join the cycleway to the Crook of Lune, Woodies Cafe for elevenses.

We continue on the cycle way to Caton, where we head south towards Lancaster and stay on lanes to Galgate village. Here, we recommend dismounting and walking across the A6 to join the lane to Conder Green. On the A588, we turn right for ¾ of a mile to Ashton Hall garden centre for lunch. Approx. 20 miles.

After lunch, we retrace our steps to Conder Green to pick up the Lancashire Cycleway. This takes us into Lancaster via St Georges Quay. We cross the river via Millennium Bridge and then take Lune Street, and also cross Owen Road to join Halton Road. After a mile we turn right to head towards Nether Kellet. Here we cross the M6 and climb through the village, taking the left hand turn to Carnforth.

The return ride is shorter, around 13 miles. There is no afternoon tea stop but we could return to the station cafe, or Booth’s cafe if people wish? We may need to alter the ride on the day, particularly the part on the Lancashire Cycleway. When riding the route recently, the cycle way was completely flooded!
