2023 Easter Rally & AGMThursday 6th April to Monday 10th April 2023 Rutland Caravan and Camping Park |
Janet and Tony Prichard will be bringing a selection of items from the Club Shop. Look for our white Vauxhall Campervan, ML06KNO on one of the hard standing pitches.
On the rides to Rutland Water we recommend a detour to the Lyndon Visitor Centre to view the osprey nest, where the breeding pair are now in residence: https://www.lrwt.org.uk/rutlandospreys (from Liz Matthews)
We rode south medium today and found access to the road fron the Rutland shared use path just before the dam closed with locked gates. We rode over the dam and got onto the A road and turned right to get back on route

Area
The 2023 Easter rally will be held at Rutland Caravan and Camping Park, which is just outside the village of Greetham in Rutland; England’s smallest county. Although just 382 km2, Rutland manages to pack in a surprising number of historical buildings. Many buildings in the area are made from the beautiful honey-coloured Clipsham stone (think Cotswolds, but even nicer). Oakham, the county town, is just 6 miles away and has a range of smaller shops. It also has Oakham School which dates back to 1584 and the great hall of Oakham Castle which is Norman and dates back to 1180-1190. Nearby is Rutland Water with a cycling track around its periphery. It is also popular for sailing, fishing, rock climbing, walking and has a nature reserve. Rutland is well known for its locally produced food. I can highly recommend Hambleton Bakery which is 3 miles from the campsite. The Discover Rutland site provides a handy Food and Drink map with a 25 mile cycling route and list of places to eat.
Rally Site
Rutland Caravan and Camping (an affiliated Caravan Club Site) is located just outside Greetham to the north of the village. The camp site is flat, has modern heated facilities blocks, dishwashing areas, baby changing facilities, laundry room, central children's play area, woodland (ideal for dog walking), wi-fi access and a park shop selling milk, fresh eggs, ice cream etc. There is also a heated indoor swimming pool for people staying on the site (extra charge). We have reserved the rally field which provides ample space for us and includes 23 electric hook-ups (7 hard standing and 16 grass). The campsite is built on limestone and is exceptionally free draining. The site also has luxury lodges which can be booked directly with the site. TV reception is good and all mobile phone networks can be used on the park.
The site is a 5 minute walk from Greetham on a quiet footpath through recently planted woodland. Greetham has 2 good pubs, a village shop and post office.
Rides
There will be a choice of 2 routes per day.
For those that have not yet attended a Tandem Club rally, we do not go out as a large group. Instead we tend to set off in small groups, so that we do not swamp the local roads. Each rally attendee is expected to bring their own printed copy of the route instructions / gpx track files. These will be published (to those booked on the rally) about a month before the rally.
Entertainment
On Saturday evening we will have a social evening directly after the AGM at Greetham Community Centre (a 5 minute walk from the campsite - torch needed).
AGM
The AGM will be held on Saturday at Greetham Community Centre. Doors open at 4;30pm and the AGM will start at 5pm. All members may attend the AGM (whether attending the rally or not).

Camp Site and Rally Fees
The club will be sited on the campsite's rally field, which has pitches at a special reduced rate per night of £28 for the pitches with EHU and £24 for non-electric pitches. On the rally field there are 7 hard standing pitches all with EHU and 16 grass pitches with EHU. The remaining pitches on the rally field (57) are all grass and non-electric. There is a minimum stay of 3 nights for a bank holiday weekend. Book early to be sure of getting the pitch type you want. If you need an EHU pitch and all those on the rally field have been booked, then you may book a non-rally field pitch (all have EHU) with the campsite direct (£33 per night). If you have booked on the rally field and prefer to be pitched near particular people, put a comment in the 'Additional Information' box - we will do our best to accommodate you. On the rally field, the pitch fee includes all members of your party (so no extra fees if more than 2 people). The information in the December/January journal incorrectly stated that there would be charges for more than 2 adults on a pitch - this information has subsequently been confirmed to be incorrect.. Note that pitches booked direct with the campsite (not on the rally field) do have charges if there more than 2 adults on the pitch.
