Gouarec is a small town which grew up around a fortified castle of which nothing now remains. Many of the buildings are of the local Schist stone with slate roofs. The town boasts a bar/restaurant, créperie, pizzeria and a café with wi-fi. The Nantes-Brest canal, built between 1811 and 1842, brought prosperity until 1922 when a dam was built on lake Guerledan flooding several locks and stopping all water traffic. You can still see traces of the metre gauge railway which linked the town with Loudéac and Carhaix from 1901 until 1971.This has been re-purposed for use as a dual gauge railway to l’Abbaye de bon Repos. The nineteenth century church is noted for its fine set of stained glass windows from Pont Aven.
Rally Site
A quiet rural campsite alongside the Nantes-Brest canal. The camping is informal, garden style with no rigid pitch demarcation. We have up to 4 fields for sole use available for the rally.10amp Electric hook ups available for many pitches although some have the polarity reversed.. The toilets, showers and washing block have been recently refurbished with mixed usage and individual cubicles. The site is just 68 miles from Roscoff or 85 from St. Malo. 975 Km. from Amsterdam or 777 Km. from Brussels. There are two permanent marquees on site for those cycle camping or without facilities to use for cooking. We will have a larger Rally marquee for all our own activities. The camping fee is very simple per person per night regardless of your facility, however there will be separate field for cycle campers with access to a cooking tent. Please indicate on the booking form.
The campsite also have 12 vintage caravans available for hire, some are 2 berth some are 4 birth, €35 or €40 per night, book direct with the campsite and tick the box on your booking form that you are staying off site. You don’t even need to bring a tandem! 2 Cannondale tandems are available for hire on site from Breton Bikes who also provide a maintenance and breakdown service.
Travel
We are negotiating a travel arrangement with one of the major ferry companies from the UK to France. As soon as we have the details we will post those here.
Rides
While the cycling is not flat it cannot be described as difficult. Both the canal towpath and V6, cycle odyssey, meet here giving a selection of good cycle routes.
What to expect on a ride
For those that have not yet attended a Tandem Club rally, we do not go out as a large group. Instead we tend to set off in small groups, so that we do not swamp the local roads. Each rally attendee is expected to bring their own printed copy of the route instructions and to have downloaded the gpx track files to their device. These will be published to those booked on the rally about 1 month before the start of the rally. The GPX routes, description and detailed information for each ride will be available at a later date.
Surfaces and canal routes
Whilst the majority of routes are on good tarmac some will be along the canal. These are tarmac or hard packed fine gravel. Well within the capability of tandems. Where possible we will indicated where these paths are.
Organiser
The principal organiser for this event is Eugene Kertzman in close co-operation with Geoff and Kate Husband the owners of Breton Bikes in Gouarec.

Booking confirmation:
Your booking is not confirmed until payment has been received in full and cleared which should be before the closing date for bookings. Dishonoured cheques will result in the cancellation of your booking.
Members Only:
This event is open to UK or overseas Tandem Club Members or, in the case of overseas people, members of the following organisations: "Tandem Club of America", "Tandem Club de France", "Tandem Club NL (Netherlands)", "Tandem ClubVlaanderen (Belgium)" and "Tandem-fahren.de (Germany)". You can join the Tandem Club using the forms on the TC website. Joining the TC (About 10 UKP per year).

Cancellations and refunds.
The rally fee will not be refunded after the closing date. Refund of other components will depend on what the Club can recover from the campsite and/or other suppliers. Members may wish to consider taking out Holiday Insurance to cover losses the Club cannot refund.
