Wanted: Thorn Rohloff or similar

Simon Dale2025-03-07 09:41:45
We've been on the lookout for a Rohloff hub touring machine for a while.   Ideally it should be a large / medium (6'1" front / 5'4" rear) and with disc brakes - but doesn't need to have S&S.   Happy to consider anything - and can travel a reasonable distance (we're North West).   Thanks.

Hi Simon, I have a thorn raven bought new 2008 for sale. Hub sent away for servicing 2017 (no work was needed on it) and it's had an annual oil change. It has had full cabling change in prep for sale last Autumn and is running beautifully. S&S couplings M/M frame. We were both about 5'7" . You'd be welcome to see if you could make the frame size work for you. It has no disk brake but had the carbide rim & Swiss top brake pad upgrade which has given plenty of brake strength even on steep Pyranean descents with a fully laden bike. I am in Carlisle for the rest of the month and then in N Wales.

Hi Simon - we have a Thorn, purchased new in 2011, with S&S couplings and Rohloff Hub that we probably want to sell. We are 6' and 5' 3" and have had huge enjoyment from it. Rear disc and rim brakes and front rim brakes (SJS wouldn't sell with front discs). We are in Kent, so not exactly local to you but with the couplings can easily fit in the back of a car so we could meet half way.

Thanks Ruth and John for such speedy replies!

They both sound interesting - but I'd guess that we probably do need a large frame set up....I've attached a picture of our current set up which fits perfectly but which lacks the desired hub - and whose brakes can be entertaining at times.
