Settle - Carlisle railway?
We're considering a 2 day relaxed pace ride between Settle and Carlisle, using the railway to return to the start point. Has anyone got any experience of taking bikes (tandems) on the train service? We *could* park at Carlisle, ride to settle, lock up the bike and return by train to pick up the car then drive back to Settle if all else fails, but it might be nicer to park at Settle, get the train up with the bike and ride back to the waiting car.
On that note, is there anyone who can recommend somewhere to park for a couple of days in Settle and / or Carlisle please?
Oh, any route suggestions welcome, my plan is to use CycleStreets.net for a baseline route then perhaps tweak it if needed
Thanks!
(I will post this on the facebook group later)

Good luck with your travels
You can't take tandems on Settle-Carlisle line trains. Go to the Northern Rail website and search bikes on trains.

During the summer months there is the staycation express service https://settle-carlisle.co.uk/staycation-express/ which is a charter train running older style carriages so they might take a tandem. Even if they don't it is a special service running all 1st class carriages so it might be a nice way to travel.
However they stop running on the 8th September this year so you have to be quick, but maybe an option for next year.
The tandem compatible cycle storage spaces on full length HSTs were in the second class carriage at the power car end so if these special sets are made up from all first class they will lack the original cycle storage spaces. However, some provision must have been made for the utility spaces including cycle storage so it might be worth trying to get further information.
Using HSTs in novel configurations seems to be in fashion. GWR's Castle Class short sets still have carriage A with the old cycle storage spaces.
