It was originally red when we acquired it. It is in a rideable condition although a few things may need a bit of tweaking & consumables such as tyres, brake pads etc. may want to be replaced depending on whether you prefer to use every thing right to its limit or keep things new & shiny. It's worst points cosmetically are the number of dings it has gathered. I'm also ashamed to say it has a small dent on one of the top tubes where something fell on it – I don't think it is significant enough to affect the strength, but that would be a buyer’s decision to satisfy themself of. Most of the chips I have touched up and have a small pot of touchup paint that is still good. The cranks/ pedals have the usual collection of scuffs/scratches/ wear. The chain set was all replaced when we restored it, withspecialized175mm cranks. I think the front and rear derailleurs are the same as when we purchased. It has v brakes with travel agents so they work with canti-lever levers, which are very effective - the levers are Weinman but are not original. The changers are Shimano bar end type. The real bonus in terms of braking is the Hope disc brake -pretty sure when we bought the tandem, the brake was described as one of the first, so looks pretty different from the disc brakes of today. We use it as the main braking option - captain just calls out when it's needed on descents etc & then switch to the V brakes for more immediate or manoeuvring needs. The one downside is I'm not sure if the pads are still available, however I was worried about that when I bought it and I still haven't opened the brand-new pair I acquired at the time. (pretty sure I have the original half used pair it came with too). The added bonus is that you have a brake with 'Hope' written on it. The handle bar tape needs redoing on the front for sure. The mudguards are nice SKS ones and are still in good nick. It has a miracle mirror fitted which is super-handy on a tandem. The tyres are 700x32c, Schwabe marathons. Rider's size wise,I find it a great fit as captain at around 5'10" and stoker of around5'2" at the smaller range up to a fair bit taller I suspect. All in all, it's a lovely tandem and rides beautifully- we've covered a good few miles on it, but probably no more than 10000. (Included in the sale is also a roof rack - happy to split this out if not required - can agree on price when the time comes. The roof rack is a fairly straight forward, solid thing, very adjustable and I’ve found it easy to use once you get over the boredom of doing up the 8 nuts that clamp it to the roof bars. ( can provide more details of roof rack if needed). I have replaced one of the nuts and bolts as I managed to lose one – the replacement is not a Ny-lock nut, but due to the springiness of the fitting, I have never had any problem with it coming loose.)
