Off road/gravel riding

Adam Fardell2023-06-28 22:05:43

Hi all,

We have only just joined TC, but we've ridden our tandem, a Ventana ECDM for a decade.

We used to ride purely off road courses from Scotland to Cornwall. As we now live in the Afan Argoed area of South Wales we've rode most of that, along with the Brecon Beacons and much of north and mid Wales.

Due to physical circumstances (also known as "time and pressure ")  we have moved away from red grade mtb trails over the last 6 months or so and are now riding gravel, tracks, mellow trails (the sort of stuff mtbers would ride to get to the "interesting stuff ") and we are loving it 😀

We joined the club to ride with other tandem teams, something we have never done. Riding busy roads is a concern and something we have generally avoided as much as possible. We are up for riding quiet lanes with others, but much prefer traffic free routes, green lanes, canal paths and forestry tracks.

We are hoping to find others who ride similar. Meet up and have double the fun.

Hoping to get a discussion started amongst like minded, with a view to future meet ups, camping? And days out, rolling the rubber in the dirt.

Here we are, we live in the Neath area. Let's get talking.

Hi Adam and Paula,

Croeso i'r clwb - Welcome to the club. My name is Stephen Adams, and I'm the Regional Organiser for SE Wales (CF and NP postcodes). We have a WhatsApp group and I can add you to it if you wish - just send me your mobile number (to sp.adams@outlook.com). Eifion, the regional Organiser for SW Wales is also a member of the group so the boundaries aren't particularly significant.

Four tandem crews were out yesterday afternoon riding 24 miles south of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan. We had a great time and hardly any rain. We're not fast and ride for the enjoyment of being together on quiet lanes or traffic free paths. We've put a date in the diary for the next ride on Wednesday 19th July - probably somewhere along the Taff Trail. We're also happy to do weekend rides - the group is just newly restarted and we're slowly discovering what works for us. If you have suggestions for rides we'd be very interested in hearing about them.

Amy and I also rode the mostly traffic free route from Swansea to Llanelli Wetlands on Sunday and that might be a future suggestion for the group.

We look forward to meeting you at some point.

Best wishes

Stephen and Amy
