On offer is a 1935 tandem cycle in need of further renovation. I bought this some 10 years ago with the idea of converting it into a tandem my wife & I would want to ride but subsequently discovered it is a rare beast with original drop handlebars and celluloid undrilled prewar mudguards. Restoration then stopped as I didn’t want a tandem with drops but I didn’t want to destroy an unusual survivor. So it is now up for sale.
The wheels and K5 Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub brakes/gears have been completely rebuilt at considerable expense (including spraying some £500) and the rest stripped in preparation for spraying/renovation. The celluloid mudguards have no splits or crack and just need polishing – the associated staying and fixings have been removed but are all included in the sale. The drops are original and have a dent at the top which will need filling before paint.
The asking price is considerably less than it cost me to rebuild the wheels. I am selling it at this price in the hope the buyer will restore it. Ultimately, if no one buys it, I may break it and sell as parts but this seems a great shame, hence the low price. It is also advertised on eBay at £200 auction starting price.
If you have any other questions please ask. Should you be travelling a long way to purchase it, we also run a B&B ( www.controltowernorfolk.uk ) so you could arrange to stay with us as well should you wish. North Norfolk is perfect for vintage cycles!
