Thorn Raven Adventure, made in 2006 and owned by us from new. It is equipped with a 14-speed Rohloff hub gear, and rolls on 26" x 1.75" wheels.

 

The tandem is in good condition and has had comparatively little use, covering about 3500 miles in our ownership.

 

Specification is:

 

Frame tubes: Thorn 969 double-butted, seamless, heat-treated, cold drawn Cro-Moly steel, tig welded construction.

 

Size: large/small (Captain 5'11" male, Stoker 5' 4" female). Seat tube lengths are 57 cm (front), 50 cm (rear), Top of front saddle 78 cm above crank centre, top of rear saddle 69 cm above crank (rear drops 1-2 cm due to seat-post suspension).

 

Front fork:Thorn 531 seamless steel tube, Thorn double-plate crown.

 

Front wheel: Sunrims CR18 alloy rim, 32 spokes, eyeleted. Thorn stainless spokes, Shimano Deore HB M 760 hub, quick release fitting.

 

Front Tyre: Panracer Pasela Tour Guard 26" x 1.75"

 

Back wheel: Sunrims Rhino alloy rim, 32 spokes, Thorn stainless spokes, Rohloff 500/14 14 speed hub gear, quick release fitting. Hub gives 14 gears across a range of approx 20" - 100" in even steps.

 

Back Tyre Schwalbe Marathon 26" x 1.75"

 

Brakes: Front and Rear Shimano Deore V-brakes, with Shimano Deore levers. Front brake fits behind the fork crown - a Thorn speciality. Rear hub and frame are disc-brake compatible, but no disc is fitted.

 

Handlebars: Front: Thorn alloy flat bars fitted with Ergon GR2 grips and climbing pegs. Rear: Thorn alloy stoker bars with black foam grips. Thorn rear stem.

 

Saddles; Front: Brooks gents leather on Thorn micro-adjustable rigid alloy seat-post. Rear: Intake Volante ladies' saddle, fitted on micro-adjustable shock absorbing seat-post.

 

Carriers: Rear (fitted): Topeak, takes slide fitting top-bag and R&K click-fix panniers. Front: (supplied loose) Tubus Tara front carrier, fits to braze-on bushes on front fork.

 

Cranksets: Thorn tandem specific, with eccentrically mounted bottom-brackets for chain tensioning. Drive and coupling chains both on RHS of frame. 44t chainwheels. Front cranks 175 mm ctrs, rear 165 mm.

 

Pedals: flat 'bear-traps' for test-riding purposes if required. Otherwise bring your favourites when you come and see it.

 

Extras: unused Schwalbe Marathon folding tyre, Pendle tandem carrier to suit rectangular-section roof-bars. Pendle carrier is approx 25 years old, and came to us second-hand in 2006 when we bought the tandem. It is rather tatty but serviceable.
