The last day is also the longest short ride but the point of interest can't be missed. Having passed through Dumfries you will arrive at Caeraverock castle. Here admission not only includes a fine moated castle but the grounds where there are signed nature trails.

Caeraverock Castle (NY026656) (Special discounted rate) Built in around 1270 Caeraverock Castle is everyone's idea of a castle. Surrounded by a double moat and besieged by both Edward 1st in 1300 and retaken by Robert the Bruce in 1312. It was remodeled by the Earl of Nithsdale in 1634 but was wrecked and abandoned 6 years later. There is a children's adventure park, model siege engine and nature trail.
