Easter 2011 UK Tandem Rally

The Easter rally will be based at the Arundel Youth Hostel which we last visited for the New Year weekend 2000/2001.

Arundel is some 40 miles West of Ringmer on the edge of the new South Downs National Park. Those who were at Ringmer will know how beautiful the Sussex Downland countryside is and, although there are a few short, sharp climbs, compared with the last 2 rallies at Ludlow, Shropshire (2009) and Ilam, Derby (2010) the countryside is more gentle but no less attractive and varied.

Hostel Residents
Most of the rooms in the hostel are 4 or 6 berth. Subject to numbers, it is unlikely that couples can have rooms of their own. It will be possible for pairs of couples to share a 4-bed room. Please indicate on the booking form if you wish to share and with whom or if you would prefer to be in a (single-sex) dorm. There is a small kitchen for self catering but as a group we are too large to use it. The price for the weekend includes full cooked breakfast and evening meal. We can use the kitchen to prepare lunchtime picnics.

Camping
Easter next year is almost as late as possible, so the days will be longer and warmer (??) Some may wish to camp. There are two family sized frame tents (for 4) in the hostel grounds available for hire and campers with small tents can camp in the grounds. Please indicate on the booking form if you would like the use of a hostel tent. First come first served. The hostel cannot accept caravans, campervans or large frame tents.

Local Campsites
There are two local campsites fairly close to the hostel. Maynards Caravan and Camping Park, Crossbush Lane, Crossbush, Arundel BN18 9PQ Tel 01903 882075. This is an unrated, simple site just off the A27 about 1 miles from the hostel down a minor road. The Ship and Anchor Marina, Ford, Arundel BN18 0BJ. Tel 01243 551262 e-mail: ysm36@dial.pipex.com. Ford is about 4 miles from the hostel. Both have pubs adjacent. Details of further campsites can be obtained from Arundel Tourist Information on 01903 882268

For those who wish to attend the rally but stay in local accommodation, please contact the tourist board for details of hotels, guest houses and BBs.

Annual General Meeting
As usual, the AGM will take place in the hostel on Saturday 23rd April starting at 5.00 pm. and finishing before the evening meal.

Dinner
There will be a dinner open to all, residents and non-residents, on Easter Sunday 24th. April at 9.95 per head at 6.30pm. (Time to be confirmed). The menu will be circulated for us to choose our meals nearer the time.

What to do if you want to take a break from cycling ?
Lots of EXCELLENT attractions nearby including Arundel Castle, the Wetland and Wildfowl Trust and Amberley Chalk Museum and many others not much further afield.
