We start at 9.30 am at the village hall car park in Askham where there is an honesty box for a nominal fee towards village hall funds. Best to get there early as it gets busy!
The ride will be a scenic circuit around Penrith named "The Penrith Orbital" (by me!) as the Penrith cyclists' equivalent to London's M25. It is a hilly 39 miles and nearly all on quiet roads.
From Askham we take the Celleron road to Pooley Bridge for an early elevenses after only 4 miles either in a café (could be busy) or a little further on by the Ullswater pier; bring your own food. Beside Ullswater and over the hills (carefully crossing the A66) and down to Greystoke, through Blencow and on to The Pot Place at 19 miles for lunch.
Crossing the A6 we go via Salkeld Dykes to Langwathby, Culgaith, Cliburn and on to Melkinthorpe for cake and tea at 34 miles. Finally, through Lowther and back to Askham at 39 miles where the shop serves coffee.
Please let me know if you are coming.
