24/09/2014 DarlingtonNew regional organiser

Hi all,

I thought this might be the best place to introduce myself as the new regional organiser for Darlington.

I'm a 40 ish year old chap with a lifelong interest in all things cycling. From downhill racing, through to time-trialling and unicycling, and a fair bit of audax riding too, I've had a go at most things. I came to tandem riding as a means of spending more time on the bikes with my wife. Following a brief test ride we were hooked, and have since progressed to a 2 tandem household.

I'll be looking to contact current members in my area in the next few weeks, with the aim of planning a few rides. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me regarding cycling in the area. Please don't be alarmed if e-mail responses are a little slow....I much prefer tinkering in the shed or riding than sitting at a computer. E-mails are usually checked once or twice a week.

I look forward to meeting fellow enthusiasts in the future.

Dan.

24/07/2015 DarlingtonI.T. problems

Hi folks,

Firstly I'm terribly sorry for the lack of activity on this page. I have been struggling with computer issues and finding it difficult to access e-mails and the website. Secondly I've had health issues that are preventing me from riding this year.

I  just wanted to draw attention to an upcoming ride in the area, organised by Liz and Andrew Charles. The venue will be near Darlington, Barton. Date 20/09/15.

Dan.

19/04/2013 EastLondonApril Ride

On Sunday 7th April the sun shone through the fog and frost and we had a decent, if chilly day. 5 Tandems and 2 solos rolled out from our meeting place at Marks Tey Station.

Making steady progress and enjoying the sun as we rolled up and down the country lanes to Boxted, where we enjoyed the usual kind of elevense but at Sandra's sisters house, Jacqui gave us a really warm welcome and mide us warm as well.

Dragging ourselves back out into the sunny, chilly air we rolled off again. We took in more of the rolling countryside (whoever said that Essex and Suffolk was flat?) and it was a great delight to see the daffodils and wild primroses along with spring lambs. We stopped for a breather at the Polstead duck pond, a favourite spot for several of us, and Alan and Wendy showed us THEIR picnic bench. We made our way uphill again from here towards Boxted and on into Assington where we stopped for a welcome lunch in the Barn Tea Rooms. Gill gave us here after lunch sales pitch for Optilab glasses and I'm sure she in now looking forward to receiving her commission!

Refreshed we then made our way through the undulating countryside through Bures pas Chappel Station and the Viaduct and into Marks Tey.

Right at the end Dave found he had a puncture oh dear! If there is ever a good time..... that was it, with his car in sight.

All said they enjoyed the ride and if Paul could find a few more hills.....

Everyone is looking forward to next months ride and with a little more sunshine we may get to see more legs as only Paul and David were brave enough to wear the shorts today.

03/03/2014 EastLondonMarch 2014 Ride
A good turn out on an overcast but dry March day.  There were a total of 12 riders which was comprised of 3 tricycles, 2 tandems and 2 solos.
Refreshments were taken at Oliver's Garden Centre, Witham  before we started the ride.
We were going at a decent pace until at 5 miles the newcomers had a puncture but once fixed we were on our way again until we got to the Fitch Way where a  fallen tree blocked our path.  We managed to negotiate the obstacle without too many scratches and were soon on our way again.
The ride finished at Stisted where a leisurely lunch was taken at the lovely Tea Room which sadly is closing soon due to the retirement of the owners.
Everybody made us feel very welcome and we look forward to joining the group again in the near future.

16/09/2014 EastLondonSeptember ride

There were 4 tandems for the ride in September, although it did rain a little as we set off from Writtle the weather improved as we travelled along the quiet Essex lanes.

The sun was shining when we stopped at Bretts Garfen Centre and it was very pleasant sitting outside and chatting while we consumed our cream teas.

The March Ride will be a week later on Sunday 19th March 2017 (third Sunday)

27/10/2016 EastLondonLocal Cafes

I have complied a list with the help of some members, that gives details of cycle friendly cafes and tea rooms where we like to stop in our area when we are out riding.   I thought this might be useful if you ever visit this part of the country and wanted to plan a ride in the lovely countryside.

If you are aware of any that we might have missed then please email me with details and I will add them to the list which can be found in the document section at the bottom of the  East London/Essex Region pages.

Hope you find it useful.

Documents Page

We're looking for ideas on how best to use the Lancashire area of the Tandem Club website.  One suggestion is for members to create Word/pdf documents of rides they have been on and would recommend to other members of the Tandem Club.
We will create a Word template that can be used as an outline and create an example document - the rest as they say, is up to you!
