Cannondale Tandems - end of an era?

Ruth Hargreaves JD Tandems2017-07-28 16:38:47

It has been confirmed that Cannondale tandems are not going to be available for 2018.

They have had a chequered history over the last few years. Around 7 years ago the company was taken over by the Dorel Group, who moved production of Cannondale bicycles to Taiwan. Cannondale tandems hung around for a couple of years as there was still stock which had been made in the USA, but by 2012 the stock had run dry.

In 2014 they came back and we have had a steady supply of their road tandems and 29ers ever since. However, the availability of tandem specific components has reduced significantly recently as several manufacturers have withdrawn their tandem offering and whether this is the reason Cannondale are withdrawing from the tandem market, or if it's because the sales volumes are too small to make the line profitable is anyone's guess.

Sad day. My T2000 from 2003 still going beautifully, a great bike.
Maybe need to stock up on potential replacement bits!
