Choice of tyre cross-section *LINK*

Sorry guys its another tyre question but I'm not wanting to divert the discussions on Paul Molyneaux's “Tyre Choice” thread hence a new one.

We have a cannondale MT800 with 26” wheels and disc brakes and we have recently fitted a rear v-brake. Problem is the brake wire between the v-brake arms rubs on the mudguard.

Currently we use Specialized Crossroads Armadillos with a 1.95 section – not our choice, they were fitted when we bought the tandem. The mudguard – designed for 2.00 tyres - has less than 10mm clearance from the tyre but to get a clean wire run it needs to be maybe 6mm nearer. Not practical me thinks so a small tyre cross-section then.

The Armadillos seem as big as other makes 2.25's so maybe I'd be OK with a 2.00 but I'd rather play cautious and go for a smaller section. Looking at Schwalbe's catalogue the Marathon ??????? tyres for wired rims only seem to be 2.00 or sometimes a skinny 1.60. I'm avoiding folders as I've read that hot rims coupled with the thermal expansion of Kevlar can cause the tyres to expand and pop off? So some questions,

- What sections do other use, would I be OK with 1.60?
- My rims are Sun Rhino Lites will they be OK at the higher pressures a thinner tyre will require.
- I note the tyre loads for the Schwalbe tyres as circa 140 Kg, is that 280 for a pair? We weigh in at 80 and 55 plus say 20 for the bike = 155Kg.
