We've been using Sedis/Sachs/SRAM 8 speed chains on our tandem for many years but in just the last two years have experienced numerous failures where the outer plate has broken around the rivet. I'm beginning to think that SRAM chains are no longer up to the job as far as tandems are concerned.
One thing that might be relevant is that up until now I've always joined the chain through conventional riveting rather than the powerlink. I understood that it was still ok to do this on 8 speed chains but not on 9 or 10. Looking at the way that the outer plate has broken I'm starting to suspect that this may not be true and that this would account for all the failures I've been getting.
What does anyone else think ?
