problem with aching wrists. *LINK*

Do you remember the Girvin Flex Stem?
I know that mention of the flex stem is likely to bring on bouts of nostalgia but there again, it was a good product, although one easily eclipsed by suspension forks. However, I find myself again yearning for one.
OK so we have a tandem which is completely devoid of suspension, we currently ride on-road with 26 x 1.95 tyres and the vibration on the steering is making my wrists ache. Sadly the old Girvin only worked with threaded steerer's and we now have a more modern threadless type where the stem clamps on.
I suppose the real question is what have others done to reduce vibration? I'm not wanting to fit new suspension forks as it will lift me too high into the air, even now I cannot quite touch the floor whilst seated in the saddle; currently an acceptable problem.
Other info: 31.4mm dia and 50mm riser bars by Race Face, lock-on grips, 50mm stem by Race Face, frame MT800 Cannondale with Fatty R forks. I've put a few pictures on the web, click the link to see.
Any thoughts you are willing to share?
