Virgin Atlantic works

Have just returned from the US where we took our MTB tandem.
For the record, Virgin Atlantic (Gatwick Las Vegas, on a 747) coped entirely happily with the bike. It had the suspension deflated (makes it smaller), pedals and handlebars off, rear mech and chain off, and was wrapped in two of the CTC plastic bags. I used clothes to pad the disc brakes and front bars (taped to the forks, so the controls felt a little vulnerable).
It made a jolly big parcel (still under 23kg though), but they said they'd carry tandems in bags, and they stuck to that. So recommended.
(TSA in the US complained about the stove fuel bottles on the return. They were empty, but they noticed them :-(. Having been told there was no way they were coming to the UK with me, I washed them out some more with slightly scented soapy water (what was in the restrooms there), took the pumps out so the bottles were obviously empty, and the hand baggage people barely flickered when I presented them to be scanned...)
