Hub brake for 20 inch front wheel

On a common theme now from recent posts. My Pino has a 20 inch front wheel with Magura rim brakes on both front and rear. They are effective for controlled stopping but we have had a front tyre fail on a long downhill from what I consider to be a combination of excessive heat caused by the effective rim brake and the higher than recommended loading on the front tyre.

The latest Pino is equipped from the factory with a front disc brake but I have seen reports of rapid pad wear and rotor distortion with lesser load than we currently carry.

I have experimented with a 60mm Big Apple tyre on the front that will fit with the front mud guard removed and minor modification to the brake mounting. Although the tyre is still overloaded this is the situation with all the 20inch (406) tyres I have tried, it gives a much better ride to my stoker.

My intention is to have another wheel built to carry his tyre with a drum brake hub and a heavy duty (bmx?) rim. Current thinking is a large heat sink SRAM i-brake. The combination of Magura rim brake operating on a large surface rim and a hub brake should be enough to keep the front tyre cool enough on long descents.

Any comments or recommendations on the suitability of these ideas would be very welcome.
