Dumfries Full of sandstone buildings, Dumfries is an attractive market town. The focal point is the Midsteeple which is the municipal building dating from around 1707. On its walls are distance markers used by animal drovers in years gone by. Burns house is where the poet lived till his death in 1796 and his mausoleum is in St Michaels churchyard, 250 metres away.
