Polstead lies on the edge of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Stour Valley Project. The typical lowland English countryside depicted by painters such as Constable, Gainsborough and Munnings can still be recognised. Flatford Mill and Willy Lott's Cottage are less than ten miles away.
On Saturday we rode through quiet Suffolk Lanes to visit the beautiful medieval town of Lavenham where we were able to stroll amongst the Tudor townhouses, view the splendid 16th century Guildhall which contains a local history exhibition, the magnificent 'Wool Church' of St. Peter St. Paul which has one of the tallest towers in East Anglia, antique shops and art galleries including the famous Crooked house. The market square made a pleasant spot to stop for a picnic lunch. On the way back we visited the village of Kersey.
On Sunday's ride we rode out through the market town of Hadleigh on our way to the village of Flatford to visit Flatford Mill. Here we were able to see the site of Constable's 'Haywain'. Morning coffee was taken in the Riverside Tea Rooms next door to Bridge Cottage.
A slide show of all photographs ca be viewed here.
The event was organised by Paul and Maxine Molyneaux.
